H. Fortune) when he opened the annua! conference of the Insurance Institute of New Zealand yesterday. Mr Fortune congratulated the institute on the excellent work being done in the insurance field, because, he said, insurance encouraged people to be thrifty and not to take risks. Insurances helped to put the business community on a firm footing and was performing a great service to the community.
Mayor (Mr R: M. Macfarlane, M.P.) welcomed delegates to the cona e J? ce ‘ Other speakers were Mr W. A. Copeman, deputy-chairman of the chartered Insurance Institute of England, Mr H. V. Reynolds, president of the Incorporated Australian Insurance Institute, and Mr W. O. Gibb, a pastpresident of the New Zealand Institute. In the afternoon delegates to the conference and their wives were entertained at a cocktail party and were taken for a scenic drive. Last evening a picture party was held. The conference will continue this morning.
