World Speed Record.—The noted woman pilot, Jacqueline Cochran, yesterday set a world speed record for propeller-driven planes when she flew a Mustang over an officiaHy-certified 18 kilometre course at an average speed of more than 469 miles an hour. There is no previous record for such a course.—New York. April 10.
Man Shot in Melbourne Street—A notorious Sydney criminal was killed last night in a Melbourne street by a gunman who escaped in a taxi. The dead man is Percival Nevill, aged 35. who was acquitted in Sydney in April. 1949, with another man, on a charge of having murdered another criminal, Francis Allard.—Melbourne, April 10.
