British Note To ILS. On Formosa

(NJI. Press Association—Copyright) (Rm. 11 pan,) WASHINGTON, April 11. Britain has asked the, United States to revise the proposed Japanese peace treaty so as to give Formosa to the Chinese Communists. Britain also asked the American Government to include Communist China in the Japanese peace treaty negotiations now proceeding.

Responsible American officiate yesterday, in disclosing receipt of foe British Note elong those lines several days ago, said that neither proposal was acceptable. The development, says the Associated Press, marked a serious break between the two foremoat Western Powers over how to handle toe treaty, it was, however, a wholly unexpected break. Some officials in Washington were inclined to attribute it to Britain's new Foreign Minister (Mr Herbert Morrison). The impression is avowing in Washington that Mr Morrison visualised a kind of “middle way" for Britain in some respects between the United States and the Communist bloe. The situation was tentatively estimated, says the Associated Press, as being similar to that which existed about five or six years ago when Mr Bevin, newly in office as Foreign Minister, cherished the idea that Britain could serve as a bridge between the Communist East and the capitalist Wert.
