HABITS OF SHAGS
STUDY ALREADY BEING MADE
The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society will inform the Christchurch section of the New Zealand Forest and Bird Protection Society of what it is doing to find out what snags eat- This decision was made at a meeting of the council of the society last evening, when Dr. D, McK. Dickson referred to a statement by Professor L. W. McCaskill. Professor McCaskill called far a fan scientific study of the black shag before a start was made on its wholesale extermination. “I get a little tired of people who" think that we are interested only in killing," Mid Ik. Dickson. Professor McCaskill had been speaking on no firmer premises than others in the same society had in the past. Dr. Dickson recalled that earlier this year th# Acclimatisation Society had announced its intention of supplying ammunition to shooters for killing shags provided they examined the shags' stomachs to determine what they ate, and reported the locality of their kills to tiw society. ,
