West Coast Honey Crop

Although not quite as heavy as last year’s record harvest, the honey crop on the West Coast this season was 20 per cent, above average. The total crop is estimated at 130 tons by the Agricultural Department's apiary instructor in, Greypaouth (Mr D. Briscoe). The high production is attributed to favourable weather which lias encouraged the flowering of manuka. It was not, however, a good season for rata. This, kept production below that of last year, when the rata flowered proliflcally. This year, the honey is darker than usual. A 'receiving depot has been established at Greymouth, where, samples are taken and the honey graded. The honey is later sent in bulk to the Marketing Department at Auckland.—(F.O.O.R'
