MAYOR TO STAY IN WELLINGTON
UNABLE TO ATTEND N.Z. MUNICIPAL TALKS (New Zealand Press Association) ’ WELLINGTON, March 12. Because emergency conditions in the city will require his full attention, the Mayor of Wellington (Mr R. L. Macalister) will not attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Municipal Association, which will open in Christchurch to-morrow. Wellington will be represented at the conference by the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. W. H. Stevens). “There were a number of important matters which I would have liked to discuss at the conference,” said Mr Macalister, "but the city will be well represented by Mr Stevens, as well as by the former Mayor, Sir William Appleton. who will remain president of the association until the conference concludes."
