REHABILITATION COMMITTEE
NOMINATION OF MRS T. GREEN
WANTS RETURNED SERVICEMAN
The executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association decided last evening to ask the Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr T. L. Macdonald) to insist that a returned serviceman be appointed by the local body in Christchurch to the local rehabilitation committee. .The Christchurch City Council has nominated Mrs T. Green for the position. "There is nothing personal in this," said the president (Mr JS. E. Batchelor), who moved the motion. *T admire Mrs Green and the work she has done, but I think that when it comes to a matter of rehabilitation and returned servicemen we should have a returned serviceman on the job.” Mr Batchelor said the appointments were ministerial and the Minister also had permission to retain the services of sitting members. “The Minister has the right of appointment, and I think we should insist on a returned serviceman for the appointment.’’ “From your remarks do you recommend Mr Clarke again?" asked Mr P. V. H. Maxwell. “No. definitely not," said Mr Batchelor. Mr Clarke retained his seat on the committee, Mr Batchelor said. In answer to a question he said the applicant must be a member of the Christchurch City Council. There were plenty of eligible former servicemen on the council The motion was carried unanimously.
