OVERTIME BAN ON WHARVES
SHIPPING HELD UP IN SYDNEY
(Re. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 21. A ban by the Waterr.ide Workers Federation on the working of overtime has caused the worst shipping hold-up for 18 months on the Sydney waterfront. To-day 76 ships applied for labour, but because the port labour force is estimated to be 2000 men under strength, three vessels could obtain no labour at all and 25 were undermanned. . . . Cargo, including thousands of bales of wool, is piling up on the wharves and in storage sheds, and there appears to be no likelihood of an improvement in the position.
