MAN’S BODY FOUND ON KARAMEA BEACH

NO IDENTIFICATION MADE From Out Own Keportei GREYMOUTH, February 21. The body of a man in an advanced stage of decomposition was found on the beach two miles from Karamea yesterday. It is not believed to be the body of either of two men drowned in the Mokihinui river recently. Investigations are being carried Out to ascertain if the bodv is that of any of several men drowned in the Grey-mouth-Hokitika region. The body is believed to be that of a middle-aged man. It had been in the water for some time and positive identification will be difficult. No trace was found of three men posted missing in Greymouth Hokitika and Reefton in the last year, and the bodies of two men drowned when a launch overturned on the Grey bar earlier were also not recovered.

Persons closely associated with Edward Berdinner and Robert Milne, who were drowned at Mokihinui, insnected the bodv this morning, but failed to identify it. There was tattooing on the insifie left forearm of the body. The word “Onward” was surrounded by fern leaves. In scroll lettering below were the letters “A C E.” The letters do not tally with any of the initials of the crews of the yachts Huskv or Argo. Detective-Sergeant R. Berry, of Greymouth, left to-day for Westpo-i to supervise inquiries.
