MAGISTRATE’S COURT
FRIDAY (Before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M.) ADMITTED TO PROBATION Peter Gibbons, aged 28. a seaman, pleaded guilty to a charge that, on May 5, 1950, at Wellington, he stole a radio set. valued at £l9 17s 6d, the property of James Mossors. He was convicted and admitted to probation for one year. He was ordered to make restitution of £l9 17s 6d, as directed by the Probation Officer. Detective-Sergeant G. W. Alty said that Gibbons had been employed as a cook at the national service camp at Hataitai. When he left the camp he took the radio from the hut occupied by Mossors. Gibbons was eventually Interviewed at Lyttelton and frankly admitted having taken the radio. He said he had given it to a casual acquaintance. The radio had not been recovered, and restitution was sought. REMANDED Graeme William Denton, aged 24. a clerk (Mr R. L. Ronaldson), was, remanded to appear on January 16 on a charge that, on January 11, while in a state of intoxication, he was in charge of a motorcycle in Cambridge terrace. He was allowed bail in his own recognisance of £25, conditional on his reporting daily to the police.
