MAN DROWNED IN RIVER
DAUGHTER SAVED “The Press" Special Service
TE AWAMUTU, January 11. A man was drowned in the Waipa river at Pirongia last evening. He was Mr Eric Gordon Cornelius, a driver, aged 37, of Pirongia.
Mr Cornelius, with his daughter, aged 14, and a boy, aged 16, were swimming about 7 p.m., when the girl got into difficulties. The boy was able to reach the girl from a willow bough and help her to safety. It was then found that Mr Cornelius had disappeared. The body was recovered early this morning.
