ITALY’S ARISTOCRACY
THE POPE’S ADVICE ON FUTURE TASKS ROME, January 11. The Pope told 200 Roman noblemen to-day not to bewail their former family glory. He was addressing a traditional New Year audience attended by members of Italy’s greatest families. The aristocracy should reassert their leadership of society by sacrifice and creative work in the service of the whole community, said the Pope. ‘The impetuous wind of a new age swallows up in its vortex the traditions of the past.” the Pope added. “An aristocracy and nobility which becomes ossified in regret for the past is destined to inevitable decline.”
