The Baptist Church’s continued opposition to gambling was expressed In a motion passed at the annual Assembly of the Baptist Union and Missionary Society yesterday. The motion, put by the Rev. H. E. Whitten, w'as as follows:
"That this Assembly reaffirm its unqualified opposition to gambling in any or all of its forms; that it expresses its conviction that the practice of gambling Is a social evil of the greatest magnitude. “That the Assembly also expresses its concern over the fact that the passing of the Gaming Act. by allowing newspapers and radio stations to publish tips and dividends, has already brought about an increase in betting. "That the .Assembly urge the Government to exercise the strictest supervision over and control of all legal forms of gambling and that it do all in its power to suppress illegal betting; and that because the broadcasting of scratchings and dividends has greatly facilitated the activities of bookmakers, the Government be asked to forbid the broadcasting of such details.
