The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) will fly to Christchurch this afternoon to attend the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Royal Show. In the evening he arid Mrs Holland will attend the Randolph ball in the King Edward Barracks. Mr Holland will return to Wellington on Saturday morning. Next week Mr Holland will fly to Christchurch again to open the annual conference of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation on Wednesday. He will return to Wellington on the same day (F.0.P.R.) Mr Sidney H. Browne, of the United States Embassy in Wellington, has been advanced by President Truman to the rank of Consul-General. Mr Browne, who arrived in August to take the place of Mr Howard Elting as First Secretary, already has the rank of counsellor Mr Elting is taking a course at the Naval War College in the United States —(P.A.)
Mr J. B. Patrick has been elected president of the Wellington Manufacturers' Association—(P.A.) Mr J K. Hunn has been appointed Acting Secretary fo r Justice and Acting Controller-Genera! of Prisons.
