SELWYN HOUSE SCHOOL

SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT The summer entertainment provided by the pupils of Selwyn House School in St. Mary’s Sunday schoolroom, Merivale, yesterday afternoon was, as in former years, an outstanding success. Much careful training on the pan of the teachers was reflected throughout the programme. The children spoke clearly and with confidence and obviously enjoyed the entertainment as did the large gathering of parents and friends.

“Wishes and Windmills,” a short play presented by pupils of the lower school, who were trained by Miss A. Balthasar, was well received, and well delivered. The simple story, which was eminently suitable for small children, was unfolded attractively by the many boys and girls who took part. A scene from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” given by the pupils in Form II was also well presented. Trained by Miss L. Longman, the girls, each of whom wore a colourful Costume, had all learned their parts thoroughly and acted them well. One of the most outstanding attractions during the first half of the programme was the singing of the “animal” song by a chorus of girls of all ages. In this the girls’ voices blended beautifully and the timing was excellent. Each knew her part and looked as if she thoroughly enjoyed singing it. Other features on the programme were dances by Miss R. B. Vaughan’s dancing class, singing games given by 12 boy pupils and the mystery scene presented by pUpils in Form 111. Of these the dancing was most outstanding. *1
