U.N. AND KOREA

Sir.—lt would have been more useful had you proven that my major statements were contrary to fact. You now have the opportunitv to do so if you will publish the full report of the United Nations Commission, which pretended to decide the resolution of the Security Council on June 27. Bear in- mind that this resolution was made within 20 hours of the first news of hostilities (June 25> reaching Washington and within 12 hours of the Security Council being called—at 3 am—from their sleep. I have searched in vain in our press for a copy of this report. Even the latest historical archives from London have no record of this important document.—Yours, etc.. JOHN BURBRIDGE. November 8. 1950.

Sir.—The situation developing ip Korea could prove as costly in a destructive sense as a North Korean victory could have proved constructively valuable in its unifying reaction and propaganda effect on w’orld opinion. Conflicts can never clarify or permanently solve anv political problem, because in war we consume and destroy the very facilities and commodity weapons essential for a progressively constructive peace. Considered on the last 32-year period, the blame for the present situation could reasonably be evaluated as 70 per cent. Western and aO per cent. Eastern in the causative sphere. The problem needs a revolutionary approach without penalty of ideological thinking, for when international affairs affect a man more vitally than national ones, he is entitled to expect and demand as high a standard of law and order in one as the other.—Yours, etc., „ , JUSTIFICATION. November 8. 1950.
