UNION FUNDS IN BRITAIN
£58,000,000 HELD (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 7. Britain’s 417 registered trade unions with a membership of 8,000.000 have £58.000.000 in the bank, according to figures just published. Ten years ago with 5.000.000 members they had £22,000,000. The biggest share is held by the Transport and General Workers' Union and tne General and Municipal Workers’ Union, who have £9,000,000 between them.
Membership last year dropped by 33.000 the first fall since 1939.
The chief registrar of friendly societies. who released the figures, stated that the union membership was about 90 per cent, of the whole British trade union movement.
