CITY MILK SUPPLY
Sir.—Your report of the conference on town milk supply makes interesting reading. During the winter we have produced on this farm hundreds of gallons of first grade milk, for which we have received the princely sum of Is a gallon (considerably under cost of production). This same milk was retailed to the public at M a quart bv the vendor who picked it up. bottled and delivered it. Yet his orofits arc mere chicken feed compared with those of milk bar proprietors. who, after adding a few drops of flavouring to about half a pint of milk, retail it at from 7d to Bd. I think it would be more in the public interest if an inquiry were held into the exorbitant profits of those who handle the milk, instead or trying to make the lot of the unfortunate producer even more difficult.—Yours, etc.. FED UP PRODUCER. November 7, 1950.
