ELECTION. IN AUSTRALIA
Decision Likely In 48 Hours
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) > CANBERRA, November 6. Developments in the next 48 "hours will determine whether a General Election will be held before Christmas. To-morrow the Cabinet is expected to decide. on the advice to be given the Governor-General .(Mr W. J. McKell). The Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) would like an immediate election for a decisive show-down on the Labour obstruction in the Senate (where Labour holds a majority) but practical obstacles appear, for there is only suffl cient time to arrange an election before Christmas if Mr McKell agrees this week to dissolve Parliament. The electoral rolls have not been reprinted since last December, and are out of date. Barely six weeks is available before Christmas to wind up Parliamental y business and fight an election campaign.
