CHURCH VIEW OF GAMBLING
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, November 6. The recent report on gambling by the Social and Industrial Committee of the Church of England Assembly was a most dangerous and misleading document, said the Rev. E. Benson Perkins, chairman of the Churches’ Committee on Gambling, which represents all denominations, at Sheffield last night. Mr Perkins said: “The statement that gambling is permissible as an amusement will be used to justify gambling far beyond what the commission intends.” Mr Perkins, who gave evidence before the Royal Commission on Gambling in December 1949, is a former President of the Methodist Conference.
