YACHTING
RACE SAILED AT LYTTELTON A stiff north-easterly breeze and a heavy sea caused the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club to cancel all its races on Saturday afternoon with the exception of the X and I class events. There were only three starters in the 14-footer race, Haze, with the advantage of a fourminute handicap, beating the two scratch boats. In the Idle Along class race. Whisper, Graham Manders new boat, off scratch, just managed to beat Paulette over the finishing line, but was placed second on handicap. Results were: X Class (Tracy Gough Cup), started 2 p.m.—Haze (A. Shields), 4min, 3hr 35min 36sec, 1; Venture (P. Mander). scr, 3hr 38min 22sec, 2; Genie (H. England), scr. 3hr 39min 58sec, 3. I Class (I Class Cup), started at 2.5 p.m. —Paulette (G. Lester), smin, 3hr 48min 49sec, 1; Whisper (G. Mander), scr, ahr 48min 50sec, 2; Falena (S. Tibble), ecr, 3hr 48mln 55sec t 3; Psyche (S. Dann., Imin, 3hr 50min 18sec, 4. Eight started.
