DELEGATES TO VISIT CHRISTCHURCH

FIRST PARTY TO ARRIVE NEXT WEEK From Uur Own Reporter t WELLINGTON, November's. Two parties of delegates who will, attend the conference ot the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association ill Wellington on November 24 will visit Christchurch this month in the course of tours of the South. Island. The first party, which is in charge of Mr D. C. Kidd (Government, Waimate) and Mr W. A. Hudson, (Opposition, Mornington) will arrive at Lyttelton next Wednesday morning. This party will be led by Mr W. S. Morrison, a member of the House of Commons, who will be accompanied by Mr S. Steele arid Colonel A. Comme-Duncan, stao members of the Commons, Major G Thompson (Northern Ireland), Lieu-tenant-Commander J. L. Quine (Isle Of Man). F. E. C. Bethell (Barbados!', A Ikoku (Nigeria). Major C. A. Copper and J. Fernandes (British Guiana'.

Alter breakfasting in Christchurch, the party will proceed at once to the Hermitage and after one day and two nights there it will proceed to the southern lakes district. Invercargill and Dunedin. On the northwards journey the party will spend the night on Sunday, November 19 and the following day and night at Timaru. There they will visit a macaroni factory, the Timaru Girls’ High School, the Burnett memorial church at Cave, attend a reception by the Overseas Club and spend the evening at the South Canterbury Club. Next day, November 21. the party will travel to Christchurch and stay at the United Service Hotel. There the visitors will be met by the Mayor (Sir Ernest Andrews) and the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast). In the afternoon a visit to the Botanic Gardens has been arranged and the visitors will be entertaihed at afternoon tea at Christ's College. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) will hold a reception at 5.15 p.m. at “Daresbury,” Fendalton. No entertainment has been arranged for that evening. Next day the party will visit Akaroa as guests of the Navy League and Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, returning to the hotel for dinner that evening. The night is again free. On Thursday. November 23, the party will visit Lincoln College in the morning and have lunch there. At 4.30 p.m. the visitors will be the guests of the City Council at a sherry party at the Sign of the Takahe and that evening they will leave on their return to Wellington. Second Party The second party of delegates will visit Christchurch on November 17. It will arrive,from the West Coast, where it will have toured all the scenic places and spent five days, one night and part of one day in both Greymoutb and Hokitika. This party will be led by Lord Llewellin, who will have with him Maior F. J. Wise, and Mr J. T. Jones, also from the United Kingdom, Messrs R S. Sparkea (Newfoundland), D. B. Sangster' (Jamaica), A. M. Lewis (windward Islands). O. Lamptey (Gold Coest) and W. H. Courtenay (British Honduras). The f*w Zealanders in charge of this party will be Mr W. Black. M.L.C.. and Mr W. P. Endean. M LC. They will arrive at the United Service Hotel in time for dinner and be welcomed there by the Mayor. Their evening will be free. Next day they will visit Sir R. Heaton Rhodes’ home, Otahuna, where they will lunch and return in the afternoon, visiting the Botanic- Gardens on the way. That evening they will be received by His Excellency at '‘Daresbury." Fendalton. Next, day will be occupied with an all-day trip to Akaroa as guests of the Chamber of Commerce. The following day the party will inspect and lunch at Lincoln College and at 4.30 p.m., before its departure by steamer ex&ress for Wellington, the visitors will e the guests of the City Council and combined patriotic societies at a sherry party in the National Club rooma.
