JAPAN PEACE TREATY
Preliminary Talks
(Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October 14.
The first round of the preliminary talks on the Japanese Peace Treaty would be completed early next week, said Mr John Foster Dulles to-day. Mr Dulles who is in charge of the United States side of the negotiations, said that he had nearly completed discussions with all members of the Far Eastern Commission with the exception of the Soviet Union. He confirmed that a fortnight ago he discussed the treaty question with Mr Jacob Malik, the Permanent Soviet Delegate to the United Nations, but as yet there had been no reaction from the Soviet Union. Mr Dulles said that representatives of other members of the Far Eastern Commission had given him their initial reaction to the United States views on the treaty, but formal replies would not be submitted until representatives had consulted their governments.
