SAND FOUND IN MACHINERY
SABOTAGE ATTEMPT IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, September 18. An apparent attempt at sabotage almost succeeded in harming the boiler at the Bunnerong power nouse. After a fireman had chased a man from the boiler a small quantity of white sand was found in the mechanism connected with The mechanism was immediately stripped down and enough sand was found to reduce it to half its productive capacity. Bunnerong is constantly, in the news because of power failures and enforced black-outs, usually caused by wornout machinery which cannot be replaced because of war-time shortages. A report from Melbourne states that an attempt was made at the week-end to sabotage the British freighter Devon at the Victoria dock. A fire, which damaged part of the electrical steering gear, is believed to have been lit deliberately
