STRIKE ends IN SYDNEY
Port To Work To-day (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 18. Officials of the Waterside Workers ’ Federation announce this afternoon that the port will be worked to-morrow, as the suspensions imposed last week on 1572 men will expire at midnight. ’The decision to return was made on the recommendation of the Sydney executive. To-day’s mass meeting of 3000 waters ders endorsed the strike action and regis ered a protest against short shifts, it called upon the Federal Council of the fee eration to serve a demand on the employers for an early introduction of the system of a full shift minimum payment. Confusion on the waterfront increased to-day when the liners Otranto, Wanganells, New Australia, and Ormiston arrived with more than 2200 passengers, to find no watersiders available to handle the baggage.
