TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILDS
REMITS FOR CONFERENCE Two remits recommended for discussion by the Hamilton guild will De considered at the annual council meeting of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds in Christchurcn this week. “That steps be taken by all guilds to overcome the commercialisation of Mother’s Day and to bring back the proper significance,” is the text of the first remit. “Mother’s Day was instituted as a day of remembrance, and meant attendance at church, each mother wearing a white flower as her badge of honour. That aspect has entirely disappeared and has become now merely an excuse for extra commercialisation.” “It is considered that too. many grants are allowed by street collections, or in other words, extortion of money by licence,” states the second remit.
