BOOKMAKER FINED
From Our Own Reporter TIMARU. September 18. “It is evident that you are in a small way of business, or I would have taken a more serious view of the offence." said Mr E. A. Lee. S.M.. when he con victed and imposed a fine of £3O on Harold Armstrong, of Timaru. who was charged with carrying on the business of a bookmaker on Sept' nber 16. in the Timaru Magistrate's Court at Timaru. th’’s morning. Detective F. R. Hearsey said that on Saturday a wallet w.s found in Church street. Timaru, and papers inside it disclosed that Armstrong was carrying on the business of a bookmaker. One betting slip showed that he had taken £l5 12s 6d on September 2. and a second slip showed that he h'd taken £25 5s on September 9. On Saturday he had taken four doubles bets amounting to £l. Armstrong had a previous conviction for bookmaking. The Magistrate warned Armstrong that if he came be'ore the Court again for bookmaking he would be sentenced to a term of imprisonment
