COLTS’ MATCH

ASHBURTON BEATS CANTERBURY Always showing superior combination between backs and forwards, the Ashburton Colts beat the Canterbury Colts by 15 points to 6 in an open but at times ragged game at the Ashburton Domain on Saturday. Ashburton attacked from the outset and for a scrum infringement on the Canterbury twenty-five, T. Gallagher kicked a penalty goal. Not long after, the Ashburton hooker, Flint Hill, increased his team’s lead with a try wide out. Ashburton continued to keep constant pressure on the Canterbury line, and although Canterbury was awarded several penalties, a man in front of the ball when the kicks were taken nullified their advantage. H. Cullen was the next to score for Ashburton when he kicked a field goal. The half-time score was Ashburton 9, Canterbury 0. Canterbury’s first points came when E. Heenan kicked a penalty goal, byt Ashburton replied With a penalty by Cullen and a try by the half-back, P. Roulston. The only further score was a penalty by Heenan right on full-time. Mr D. Haskett, of Methven, was referee.
