MINOR FIRES
Fire, started by an overheating electric heater, damaged the contents of a room at 104 Rugby street, the home of Miss G. M. Meredith-Kaye, on Saturday evening. St. Albans and central units of the Christchurch Fire Brigade answered the call, which was received at 8.59 p.m.
At 7.21 p.m. on Saturday a rubbish fire at the New Zealand Railways yard at Wilsons road was put out before any damage was done. Three calls were answered by the brigade yesterday. At 9.8 a.m. a chimney fire was put out at the home of Mr M. W. Urey, at 134 Slater street. At 4.15 p.m. a grass fire on Christchurch Drainage Board property in Aidwins road was put -out. It had been started by a lighted match being thrown down. At 5.22 p.m. a chimney fire at the Shades Hotel, Hereford street, was nut out by the brigade.
