TRADE MOTOR VEHICLES

OPENING OF SHOW (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, September 6 Nearly 450 firms have booked space to show exhibits valued at more than £3,000,000 at the British Commercial Motor Show which will open on September 22 at Earl’s Court, London. Among the record number of exhibits will be many novel types of vehicles, several of which have been specially designed for overseas buyers. One tractor intended for export is said to be among the biggest yet made. It measures 31ft Bin long and 10ft 3in wide.

A six-wheeled tractor, with drive on each wheel, is credited with being able to climb gradients of 1 in 2, ploughing through two feet of mud and crossing swamps and marshland. An all metal trolley bus intended for British roads seats 70 persons on two decks.

Mr W. Lyons, president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, told a press conference in London that the commercial motor industry’s export drive was now running at a rate equal to nearly one vehicle for every minute of every working day.
