HOUSING POLICY

BUILDING UNIONS TO CONFER Branches of the. New Zealand Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Union have been recommended by the national executive to call meetings of executives of allied trade unions to discuss the Government’s housing policy. No date had been fixed for the conference of Christchurch unions, although officials of several unions had been informed of the proposal, said the secretary of the Carpenters’ Union (Mr F. L. Langley). The conference would consider a protest against the Government’s proposal to build transit houses, he said. Another suggestion was that the Government should be pressed to continue the building of State houses.
