WEDNESDAY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) IMPRISONMENT FOR DESERTION Francis Joseph Murphy, a seaman, of England, aged .27, was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of deserting from the Brisbane Star in .Auckland on September 1. Mr N. H. Buchanan, who appeared for the Blue Star Shipping Company, said that Murphy deserted from the ship at Auckland and was caught trying to stow away on a ship at Wellington. He was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment for the offence on that occasion. Murphy's sentence for deserting will be cumulative on the sentence he is already undergoing.
