Several arrived by taxi, while others were on foot, or accompanied by relatives, arrived bv bicycle as the roll was being called. A number of those spoken to said they had volunteered because they ‘felt the urge,” and others said they did not know. About 80 left from Montreal street, at the rear of the barracks. Most of those selected were between the ages of 21 and 27 where most suitable, but those with previous service were accepted where possible. As far as possible, those men likely to be the subject of appeals were avoided. The volunteers who left yesterday included few men from farms and other essential jobs.
