CHINESE FORCES IN ACTION
(Rec. midnight). HONG KONG, June 28.
Chinese Nationalist aircraft and warships were to-day reported in action off the China Coast near Hong Kong, in spite of Mr Truman’s call upon the Nationalist Government to cease all operations against the mainland. Royal Naval sources at Hong Kong said they thought the Nationalists were attempting to stem Communist attempts to seize the few remaining islands the Nationalists hold off the Pearl River estuary, south-west of Hong Kong. Gunfire was visible from Hong Kong but the outcome of the fighting could not be ascertained.
