ENGAGEMENT
Mr and Mrs H. W. Brown, Kaiapoi R.M.D.. announce the engagement of their second daughter, Colene Dawn, to Leonard Etheredge, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L. F. Allan, Barbadoes street, Christchurch.
A substantial cheque given by the Alliance Francaise in Paris for the activities of Cercle Francais was passed to the treasurer by Mr H. Honore. who presided at the June meeting of the circle. The Alliance also sent a gift of books and medals to be used in the circle work of spreading knowledge of and interest in France and the French language. “La Parure” was read by Mr Parker, who with Mr Bouckoms later read some verses and dialogues. Recordings of modern popular French music were also played. Fables of la Fontaine and French authors provided competitions of interest. Durin" the evening a programme of considerable variety was given bv the hosts and hostesses, Mesdames L. Deweppe, Vogan, Messrs J. Parker and J. Bouckom«.
