BLACKBALL BRIDGE WRECKED. BY FLOOD The gap in the Blackball combined rail and road bridge after two spans, of a total length of about 150 feet, had been swept down the swollen Grey river. The bridge affords the only rail link between the Blackball township and mine.
WATER ALMOST LEVEL WITH THE WHARF AT GREYMOUTH.—The Union Line’s ship Gabriella (1603 tons) berthed at Grey mouth at the height of the flood in the Grey river. Extra hawsers were run out, and the ship’s engines were turning to combat the current, which reached a speed of 13 knots.
