GAY KNIGHT’S PROSPECTS

TROTTING

FINE PERFORMANCE AT ADDINGTON

Although he was handicapped by having to race against more seasoned horses, Gay Knight, which was having his first race since being operated on for wind trouble some months ago, gave a sterling performance to finish fourth to Dragoman. Parawa Derby, and Prince Hall in the fast time of 2min 36 3-ssec after starting from a 2min 42sec mark in the Final Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday. Gay Knight began quickly from the 24 yards mark to be handy to Gantree. Congo Song, Islaburn Lass, and Parawa Derby at the end of half a mile. When Tarawa Derby broke, D. C. Watts quickly took his position with Gay Knight. After being fifth into the straight, Gay Knight fought on gamely to earn the fourth prize of £35 for Mr C. P. Agar, for whom he is now trained at Prebbleton by V. Leeming.

The winner of £6049 in stakes last season, Gay Knight was allowed to go out at a long price on Saturday. He will be much more popular with investors when next he parades. Colleen Derby, Country Home, Daphne Guy, Derry Pointer,. Elsie de Oro, Fair Rey, Fragment. , David Dryden, which gave away starts of up to 60 yards, was seen at his best when he finished fast in third place to Two Step and Signal Light in the Second Hambletonian Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Better placed in the handicaps, he should win a race for J. D. Geddis, whp trains him at Greenpark. Ohio Sore

As Sir John McKenzie’s promising two-year-old colt, Ohio, showed signs of soreness last week, he was withdrawn from the Juvenile Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Ohio, which finished third in his last two • races, is a half-brother by Springfield Globe to Young Charles. Trained at Greymouth Capably handled by M. Kennedy, Young Neen, which is trained at Greymouth by W. R. Smart, gave an encouraging display when she finished third to Dame Durdin and Bashaw in the Addington Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday. On this display, Young Neen, which is an aged daughter of Lucky Jack and Golden Air, should soon win a race. Related to Hemisphere Mr A. V. le Roi recently sold a colt by Light Brigade from the Grattan Loyal mare. Kushanahi. to Mr John E. Reeves (Dunedin) for £5OO. A nicely-moulded youngster, the colt, which is a half-brother to a winner in Hemisphere, may be sent to Hinds to be trained by D. L. McGregor, Finished on Well After having ±5 horses in front of him when the field settled down in the Peninsula Handicap at Addington on Saturday, Morano finished on well in third place to Van Dieman and Piccolo. If G. Holmes can persuade him to begin quickly, Morano should prove hard to beat in the New Zealand Futurity Stakes at Ashburton on Saturday. Has a Cold Fourth Brigade developed a cold last week, and he was withdrawn from the Addington Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. A splendid young trotter, Fourth Brigade should take high honours next season. A Solid Performance ■ Good Review gave a solid performance for R. H. Butterick, who trains him at Rakaia. when he finished third to Parawa Derby and Bonny Scott in the Winter Handicap at Addington on Saturday. An aged son of Sandydale and Credit Funds, Good Review should take a tighter mark next season. Another Trial The board of the New Zealand Trotting Association decided on Friday night to allow Miss W. J. Murray (Rangiora) to give Kilts, which had been recommended for the schooling list after being involved in an accident at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting, another trial if he is converted to the trotting gait. If Miss Murray desires to race Kilts as a pacqr, he is to do a trial before the stipencnary stewards.
