BRITISH PETROL SUPPLIES
RATIONING ENDED (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, May 26. The end of petrol rationing in Britain tc-morrow was announced in the House of Commons to-day by the Minister of Fuel (Mr P. Noel-Baker). The Minister said that the Standard and Texas Oil Companies were prepared, if rationing were ended, to bring in additional supplies from the sterling area. Both companies had agreed to spend sterling acquired in the sterling area cn additional goods and services in their operations, or on building tankers in Britain. The refinery programme had made better progress than expected. and British companies had assured the Government that they were now able to find all the petrol required. The Minister added that Britain could now end petrol rationing without impairing her ability to import essential foodstuffs, timber for housing, and raw materials for the maintenance of full employment.
