NEW TELEPHONE EXCHANGES
FOUR BUILDINGS FOR CHRISTCHURCH BECKENHAM. FENDALTON, SHIRLEY, AND PAPANUI From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON. May 26. Tenders have been called for the construction of four new automate telephone exchanges in Christchurch They will be situated at Beckenham. Fendalton. Shirley, and Papcnui The Postmaster-General 'Mr W. J. Broadfoot) said to-day that Cabinet approval had been given for the-e new exchanges. The Minister raid there was acute congestion in tn? Christchurch telephone sy.-tem. and the w’aiting list totalled more than 8000. Automatic switching equipment to" the four new buildings would start to arrive in New Zealand in January. Mr Broadfoot said.
