AUSTRALIAN SENATE
HOURS OF SITTINGS FIXED OPPOSITION MOTION CARRIED (Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 26. The Labour majority in the Federal Senate to-day fixed the days and hours of sittings of the Senate. A motion by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator W. P. Ashley) that unless otherwise ordered, the Senate should meet in future only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, was carried by 32 votes to 23. Later, a motion by the Leader of the Government (Senator N. O'Sullivan) that the Senate adjourn until tomorrow mprning was defeated by a similar margin and the Senate’ adjourned until Tuesday afternoon.
