ENTRY INTO SHANGHAI
PERMITS ISSUED BY COMMUNISTS
HONG KONG. May 25. The first large-scale influx of foreigners into China since the Communist armies overran the country , : s expected soon as the result of the issue of 150 entry permits by the authorities in Shanghai. Arrivals from the north said that nearly all the permits had been issued to British women who have been waiting many months in Hong Kong for permission to rejoin their husbands in Shanghai. The issue of permits, coupled with the Nationalist withdrawal from the Chusan Islands blockade base, has done much to raise morale among the thinning ranks of Britons in Shanghai.
