RIFLE SHOOTING

SELECTION TRIALS FOR N.Z. TEAM (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WELLINGTON. May 25. Seventeen of New Zealand’s Leading marksmen competed at Trentham to-day for the remaining places in the New Zealand Rifle Association’s team to visit Australia in September. This year’s King’s Prize winner, F. J. Jeune, has automatically been selected without competing. The team will be announced after to-mor-row’s shoot. To-day’s competitors included Harold King. King’s Prize winner in 1948; Charles Nix. the winner in 1947. W. Oakley, who won the King’s Prize in Australia last year, was also competing. Major W N. Masefield, who was five times a King’s Prize winner, will be shooting captain of the team, and Major-General W. H. Cunningham. president of the National Rifle Association, will be team commandant. The team of 12 will leave about September 14.
