ROXBURGH POWER STATION
CONTRACTS LET FOR EQUIPMENT £1,000.000 FOR TURBINES AND GENERATORS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 24. The Government had approved the placing of two large contracts, to a total value of about £1,000,000, for the manufacture and supply of heavy hydro-electric generating plant for the Roxburgh power station, said the Minister in charge of the State Hydroelectric Department (Mr W. S. Goosman) to-day. The larger contract had been placed with the National Electrical and Engineering Company. New Zealand agents for the British Thomson Houston Coippany, England, for generators, and the other contract had been placed with the Dominion Engineering Compay. Canada. for turbines. Parts of the turbines would be manufactured in Nev/ Zealand. Tenders had been received from eight overseas countries. The plant comprises four main generating units of a total capacity of 160.000 kilowatts. It will form the first half of the power station.
