PACIFIC SCIENCE ASSOCIATION

PERMANENT SECRETARIAT ESTABLISHED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 2. As a result of a decision by the Seventh Pacific Science Congress held in New Zealand last year, there has now been established in Honolulu a permanent secretariat to maintain the activities of the Pacific Science Association between congresses. The office will be the Bernice P. Bishop Museum.

This information was given by Dr. Gilbert Archey, convener, with Sir Peter Buck, of the secretariat establishment committees, and the honorary secretary cf the interim secretariat that has been operating in Auckland during the last year. Mr Loring G. Hudson, M.Z., B.Sc., of Honplulu, has been appointed executive secretary, and Miss Brenda Bishop, of Auckland, assistant secretary. Mr Hudson was the Guam officer of the Pacific Science Board in 1947 and then joined the Far East command in Tokyo. Recently he was Information Officer with the South Pacific Commission in New Caledonia.

Miss Bishop was secretarial assistant for the science congress, and afterwards assistant secretary of the interim secretariat.

The funds for the first two years’ operation of the secretariat have been provided by the Rockefeller Foundation of New York, UNESCO, the Coolidge Foundation of New York, and a private Honolulu foundation.
