BRITISH ELECTION RESULT
Sir, —In the British election, Labour has a majority of a few seats with a voting strength of about 13,000,000. If the Conservatives had' won, the result would have been nailed as a great victory by the press. As it is, the whole thing has been toned down. However, 13,000.000 people will be able to tell 12,000,000 people how to run the country. This looks like a form of dictatorship in spite of our so-called democratic system. The Russian system has its weak points, but at least it has a stable government—how different from that of France! The point of this letter is that fundamentally there is not a great deal of' difference between these rival forms of government, certainly not enough tr warrant the wild talk of wars and rumours of wars that is being waged tc-day by press and radio.—Yours, etc., BOMB. March 4, 1950.
