WHEAT PRICE
Sir, —Congratulations to the wise men of Mr Holland’s Cabinet in making their announcement for the price of wheat for 1950-1951. The f.o.r. basis will bring in marginal land capable of growing 60 bushels of wheat an acre 100 miles from any port, and so give these farmers an incentive to grow wheat. It removes a gross anomaly that I advocated should be lifted 10 years ago and probably would have been lifted had it not -met with strong opposition from Ellesmere and Mid-Canterbury growers.—Yours, etc., C. G. ABBOTT. Cheviot, March 6, 1950.
