VACUUM CLEANERS FOR HOSPITALS

DEPARTMENT INQUIRY INTO MERITS (New Zealand Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 7. The Auckland Hospital Board has been waiting since June for permission from the Health Department to buy 72 vacuum cleaners. So far the application has not reached the Minister of Health«( Miss M. B. Howard) because the advantages of vacuum cleaners over other means of cleaning are being investigated by the department.

A letter from the Director-General of Health (Dr. Tt R. Ritchie), dated October 10, which was before the board this evening, said that investigation of the advantages claimed for vacuum cleaners over- established methods of sweeping and dusting was proceeding and the board’s application would be submitted to the Minister when definite conclusions had been reached. He added that it might be a month or two before he was able to notify the board of the Minister’s decision.
