GOLF TOURNEY AT INVERCARGILL

EXHIBITION OF OLD PICTURES From Gvr Own Reporter INVERCARGILL, November 7. Much interest and some amusement has been caused at the New Zealand women’s golf championships by the exhibition of pictures of golfers at’ earlierchampionship meetings. The pictures, taken from illustrated papers, most of which have now ceased publication, are the property of Mrs McCarthy, of Dunedin, who is attending her fortieth championship meeting. They show Mrs McCarthy herself in a long full skirt confined at The knees by an elastic band, and pictures of Mrs Guy Williams, Miss D. Symes (now Mrs M. H. Godby, of Fendalton), Miss Agnes Humphreys (now Mrs G. E. F. Kingscote, of Fendalton), and Miss Bonnie Wright (now Mrs J. C. Templer) at one of her earliest tournaments, with her hair falling over her shoulders. Mrs Templer is taking part in the present tournament and Mr Templer, formerly a well-known player at Shirley, to-day caddied for Mrs R. G. Fullerton-Smith.

One of the pictures shows -he British team that visited New Zealand some years ago with the New Zealand team that played against them. The Australian players were surprised to find in the pictures a portrait of a fellow Australian, Miss Wray, who played at Shirley many years ago. Some of them know Miss, Wray and are anxious to take the picture back to Australia to show it to her.

The Australian team have ns a mascot not a koala bear but an Australian rabbit. He has a white v/oolly jacket and green and gold trousers and trappings, and he carries a green golf bag with miniature c • ts.

To-day players and visitors were entertained by the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club at a 5 o’clock party at the home of Mrs H. K. Allen. Avenal street. To-morrow they will be the guests of the Queens Park Ladies’ Golf Club at the club house.
