Mounting deaths and damage ar* reported after last Monday s typhoon and the floods that followed in th* Philippines. Reports from one province of Negros alone said that 500 persons had been drowned by floods in the town of Kabankalan. The chairman of the Philippines Red Cross (Mr Manuel Lim). in a cablegram to the International Red Cross appealing for help, said that 192 persons were known to be dead and 452 were missing and presumed dead. Incomplete estimates placed the damage at 50.000.000 dollars. The typhoon and floods have affected eight provinces, paralysing transport I and communications. No word has been received from many areas which are still isolated. Incomplete reports indicate that about 450,000 people have been mad* destitute.
