AID TO GREEK GUERRILLAS
RESOLUTION SENT TO U.N. ASSEMBLY
NEW YORK, November 4. .The United Nations Political Committee decided to-day to ask the General Assembly to condemn Albania and Bulgaria for continuing to help the Greek guerrillas, and to call on all parties in the Balkans dispute to settle their differences peacefully. The vote was taken on a resolution jointly sponsored by Australia, Britain, the United States, and China. Thirtyeight voted for it, and the Soviet Moc and Jugoslavia against it. The committee approved the report of the United Nations Special Commission on the Balkans and decided that the commission should continue its work. The resolution called on States harbouring Creek nationals to "facilitate the peaceful repatriation of all such individuals who desire to return and live in accordance with the law of the land." The committee rejected a Soviet resolution calling for a general amnesty, free parliamentary elections supervised by the Big Powers, the establishment of a joint commission of the Big Powers io control the frontier between Greece and her northern neighbours, the withdrawal of foreign troops from Greece, and and the dissolution of the United Nations Balkans Commission. The United Press says that observers felt that the adoption of the resolution was an empty gesture of moral pressure. The Assembly can do nothing beyond recommending such measures, and the overwhelming bulk of military aid to the Communist Balkans countries comes from Russia and her satellites.
